Dance Voice is a Dance Movement Therapy and Education Centre based in Bedminster, Bristol and provides Dance Movement Psychotherapy (DMP) for various individuals and groups in the community. Dance Voice also runs courses relating to DMP at all levels.
The aim of Dance Movement Psychotherapy is to develop self-expression, clarity of thought and to enable people to manage their feelings, to expand communication and develop creative resources through moment and dance. Individuals explore themes within a safe psychotherapeutic relationship with a therapist who facilitates rather than directs the session.
Dance Voice offers a one week short course, a one year National Certificate (BTEC) in Dance Movement and the Therapeutic Process and a 3 year Masters Programme in DMP that enables students, particularly In the South West of England, Wales, Ireland and the Midlands, to access professional training in DMP.
Students come from a variety of backgrounds. Some are professionals seeking to enhance their skills in the areas of dance or therapy, whilst others may be returning to learning after a long absence. Dance Voice’s approach to education is extremely inclusive and often encourages people who have been marginalized in mainstream education to realise and achieve.
As a student at Dance Voice, you will come into contact with a huge variety of people from different communities and with different backgrounds and needs.
The therapy work at Dance Voice has now expanded to include the provision of DMP for a wide range of clients. These include adults with mental health problems, learning difficulties, acquired brain injury, addiction recover groups, the elderly, children and young people with special needs.
Here are just some of the comments from students currently studying with Dance Voice for certificates in DMP."It is really good fun. I’m in my element! Working with clients blows my mind. It is magical."
"It is such varied learning. You are moving constantly and not just sitting at a desk all the time."
"It is also about self-development and personal growth. It has done wonders for my self-confidence and it really challenges my brain."
