Arnos Vale Cemetery is a unique location that is now in the care of the Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust, a UK registered charity, so that it can be enjoyed now and saved for future generations, as:

A place of heritage containing many listed buildings and monuments of regional, national and international importance.

A place of tranquillity, a 45 acre haven of peace and quiet in an otherwise busy part of a bustling city.

A place filled with stories, a city within a city, inhabited by memorials to Bristolians of all classes, and others who found themselves in the city by accident or design.

A place of respect where more than 300,000 people are buried or remembered, from much-loved members of ordinary Bristol families to those who changed their world or sacrificed their lives in war.

A place to return to because there is so much to see and do and such seasonal variety that one visit to Arnos Vale Cemetery will never be enough.

A place for wildlife where many fascinating wild plants and creatures thrive, adding to the enjoyment and interest of visitors and providing wildlife with an essential green corridor that helps an abundance of species to survive.

The Atrium Cafe

The Atrium Cafe is situated at the heart of the cemetery, in a beautiful glass pavilion adjacent to the Spielman Centre, and is the perfect place to relax with a delicious coffee and a slice of homemade cake. The Atrium Cafe is open everyday from 10am to 4pm (later in the summer) and serves hot food until 3pm.

Arnos Vale is full of stories and regular themed tours are held throughout the year. If you are travelling in a large group and would like a bespoke tour we can arrange a tour to suit your groups’ particular interest. On Saturday afternoons we offer Taster Tours lasting just over 45 minutes - giving a whistle-stop tour and some fascinating facts about Bristol and the cemetery. Booking is not necessary but it is advisable to have a look at the website or ring to check the tour is running.

If Wildlife is more your thing, then Arnos Vale reveals wildlife surprises throughout the year; sweeping roads and pathways, flowers, fauna, trees, creatures and critters. Arnos Vale is not simply an important site for biodiversity in itself. It is also a vital stepping stone in Bristol’s wildlife corridors, connecting wildlife separated by roads and buildings, foxes, badgers, owls and bats. We even have our own resident Roe Deer who makes the odd appearance. Horse chestnut trees, oak, Irish yews, Austrian pines, Western red cedar, Chilean pine, Himalayan cedar, English yews, weeping ash and shrubs such as cherry laurel, Japanese spindle and box. In the woodland areas you will find primroses, wild garlic, lady’s smock, goldilocks buttercup and many other plants, including some rare national species such as ivy broomrape. With ever-changing scenery and landscape there is always something new to discover.

Arnos Vale has its very own learning team and we have a wide variety of educational experiences and family activities throughout the year. From Stomping Stories and Creative Workshops through to academic research and learning resources for schools. Arnos Vale is a Site of Special Conservation Interest and is a magical outdoor classroom which abounds with places to explore art, architecture, history and nature.
