Launch Of Hestercombe Water Mill And Energy Centre
The Hestercombe Water Mill is a million pound restoration project that has transformed a tumble down, listed, Victorian mill and barn into an entertaining contemporary complex for visitors with energy conservation at its heart. It also showcases how it was done for others to learn from and demonstrates, (with hands on examples), how energies from the past were once used at Hestercombe (the renovated water wheel, power for gas lamps, a Victorian turbine for example.) The working mill also brings us right up to date with modern technologies too. A special Garden Tea Party will also be held for all visitors on Sunday April 25th, 11am - 4pm, normal rates apply (but free if in Victorian dress!)
Hestercombe offers a great destination for an exciting short stop or a
wonderful leisurely day out.
Walk the gardens, visit the Courtyard to enjoy delicious refreshments - or
browse in our beautiful Gift Shop which is filled with interesting and unusual
gifts, books and a well stocked plant centre. Also, new for 2008 - The Gallery
Restaurant - for businesses lunches, corporate entertainment and special
occasions. Open Tuesday to Friday (Closed weekends and Mondays) 12 to 2.30
offering an eclectic mix of English dishes, well cooked and beautifully
presented in a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere.
And don’t forget to visit our Bat Roost with it’s hi tech viewing room!
Also - we are dog friendly - DOGS WELCOME on a short lead.
Hestercombe is a unique collection of three gardens spanning three centuries of
garden history and design. All have undergone acclaimed restoration works and
today provide important examples of gardens in contrasting styles that continue
to grow and develop.
