The City and County of Bristol Bowls Club
Welcome to the City and County of Bristol Indoor Bowls Club positioned within its own grounds in an area of parkland on the outskirts of Bristol in South Liberty Lane, Ashton Vale. Our facilities include nine bowls rinks of international standard, spacious changing rooms, lounge and bar area, catering facilities, function room, a bowls shop and ample parking. We pride ourselves in our warm, friendly welcome to all our visitors.
The Sport of Bowling
The aim of the game is to bowl with biased bowls, which when delivered travel in an arc, towards the jack. The winner is the person or team that gains most shots or points by having bowls resting closest to the jack.
There are many different bowling games derived from the basic game such as Pairs, Fours, Triples, Yardstick, Australian Pairs and many, many more.
For those interested in bowling The City and County of Bristol Indoor Bowls club has a membership of over 700 aged from 6 to over 90 years of age. We provide a full variety of bowling experiences for complete beginners to those with international bowling expertise. We are open 7 days a week from 10am until late with reduced opening hours during the summer.
New to Bowling
During the year we have major open days to encourage those who are interested in taking up the sport plus we are pleased to welcome anyone along at any time who wants to learn the sport of bowls. Coaching is free and during coaching sessions all equipment is provided at no charge.
For experienced bowlers
There are numerous leagues of two hour duration with opportunities for roll ups (turn up and play), umbrellas (arrive by a set time and play in teams organised from those who turn up) and matches to suit the social bowler in addition to the fun days, coaching and marking courses which are organised at intervals during the year. For those with a more competitive spirit there are opportunities to enter Somerset leagues, County and National competitions in addition to the annual club competitions.
For the Disabled and Visually Impaired
Our stadium and car parking arrangements are very user friendly for those who suffer from disability. We supply specially adapted wheel chairs for use on the green. Bristol and District Blind Bowls Club enjoy using our rinks and facilities on a regular basis.
