Welcome to Wycliffe
Wycliffe College is a thriving day, boarding and flexi-boarding school set conveniently within the heart of the Cotswolds. The school has excellent links to Bristol by road and there is even a daily mini bus service available from Thornbury, making Wycliffe an ideal destination for students who want all the advantages of a contemporary environment without the distractions of studying in a large city.
The College is committed to fostering individual learning in all areas of the curriculum and pupils benefit from small class sizes with a high teacher to pupil ratio. One of Wycliffe’s aims is to cultivate each pupil’s unique talents and to bring out the best in its pupils by creating a supportive learning environment which promotes individual achievements in all fields. Specialist teachers ensure outstanding teaching delivery across the curriculum and a wide variety of extra-curricular activities enables the school to offer a fully-rounded education designed to develop confidence and self-esteem.
The following examples demonstrate how the school is reaching its goals: at the Senior School, the refurbished School House building has proved to be an exceptional learning environment. Since its inauguration, pupils have benefitted greatly from the stimulating classrooms, each with interactive whiteboard and online curriculum learning, and also the rich resources of the Library. During the summer, the older boarding houses underwent the first stage of a major refurbishment which will continue throughout 2007. The Preparatory School has also undergone major redevelopment, with the refurbishment of the Nursery, Year 3 and 4 classroom block, boarding accommodation and new Astroturf pitch.
Academic excellence is something pupils are encouraged to attain and the fact that some of our pupils are benefitting from their membership of NAGTY (the National Academy for Gifted and Talented Youth) attests to the high-achieving nature of many of our students and the school’s ability to nurture this. For the sixth year in succession, the pass rate at A level was 100%, with over 60% of our pupils achieving A to B grades over the same period. The GCSE pass rate is also high, with 90% of pupils gaining A* to C grades. There are over 27 subjects available at AS level including Theatre Studies, Media Studies, Travel and Tourism, Psychology and Japanese.
However, achievements beyond the classroom are also valued, sport, drama and music are other areas where pupils have flourished. Wycliffe has enjoyed notable sporting successes in rugby, cricket, squash, netball and cross-country and the state-of-the-art Sports Centre provides a focus for all sporting activity with four squash courts, facilities for tennis, volleyball, netball, badminton, indoor football and fencing as well as a new cricket pavilion and the ever-popular SJ’s coffee shop.
