Continental Circus Berlin, The Downs, Bristol Review 3rd October 2016

Wow! Is about the first thing you have to say about the Continental Circus Berlin’s latest exhilarating and breath-taking show with new and thrilling acts, plus all the circus favourites. It’s true that in these days of technology you can see almost anything performed on television but nothing beats being up close and personal with the performers, and to borrow a phrase, the small of the greasepaint and roar of the crown, along with the slightly damp and rather exotic smell of the Big Top makes for a marvellously different night out.

We loved father and son act, Angelo and Kevin who gave clowning a new meaning, plenty of hilarious visual slapstick with expert juggling and plate spinning, and instant rapport with the children, they were a master of their craft. Circus magic was in the air when the Wolf family began their juggling act in the dark with glowing fluorescent costumes and clubs, and gasps went up as fire was introduced.

There were some wonderful aerial acts which held us spellbound and we didn’t breathe again until the artists were safely back on the ground. The balancing act by Desirée was incredible, as were the Duo Golden Stones, a hand to hand strength and balancing performance. The Duo Lugo presented their laser light act, an amazing panoply of flashing lasers manipulated by the duo showing that circus skills can also be moulded from the modern world.

It was a superb show, which we enjoyed tremendously along with an audience with an age range of toddlers to old codgers. And very much worth the ticket price for all that talent, hard training and dedication, culminating in a performance given with gusto just for you.
